SPEAK UP
The new route adjustment process kicked off on May 1, 2009. The union and management are supposed to look at every route in the country to determine how long they are. The parties have agreed to fix any route that is not 8 hours. Unlike the old 6 day count process the parties will be evaluating your route based on at least one months data. The parties will compare your standard office time to your actual office time. A form 3999 to your actual street time. Standard office time is based on your volume and casing at 18 letters per minute and 8 flats per minute. It also includes the fixed office time such as vehicle check, accountables, mark-ups etc. The form 3999 is the one day walk on the street. In the MIRAP process it is important that you, the carrier, speak up. In the consultation you will be asked a series of questions to get your input for your route. The process has been designed to ensure that carrier input is taken into consideration. The NALC person assigned at the district level to your city doesn’t necessarily know you or your route. It is important that you point out why standard office time or the form 3999 is not the right time for your route. The NALC keeps trying to design a route process that is fair to letter carriers and gives them credit for everything they do in the day. Your job is to SPEAK UP |
