5 day delivery rumors not true.
On September 1, 2009 management gives stand up telling the Letter Carriers that mail delivery days will be reduced from six to five days by October 1, 2009. You may have been told by your supervisor in a standup talk that in a very short time the Post Office will go from six to five day a week delivery or some similar type of rumor. Those rumors simply are not true. Management has absolutely no basis for making such statements. The Postal Service lacks the authority to make such a decision to reduce the number of mail delivery days. Only the Congress is empowered to make such a decision. The Post Office has approached Congress to reduce mail delivery to five days a week. However, Congress is very reluctant to reduce mail delivery in the United States to five days a week. September 1, 2009 and October 1, 2009 have passed and letter carriers are still delivering mail six day a week. There are many rumors going around about 5 day delivery and many other things. Most of them simply are not true, or the truth has been stretched considerably. If you are told something by your manager that does not sound right, don’t hesitate to contact the Branch Office for clarification. |
