Breast cancer touches far more lives than the person who receives the diagnosis. It affects mothers, daughters, wives, sisters, friends, coworkers, and entire families. In the United States, about 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer during her lifetime. The American Cancer Society estimates that in 2026, approximately 321,910 women will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer, while another 60,730 cases of ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) will be diagnosed. Sadly, an estimated 42,140 women will lose their lives to breast cancer this year.

But statistics don't tell the whole story. Behind every number is a person, someone we know, someone we love, someone who may be part of our postal family. That's why Breast Cancer Awareness matters. Awareness encourages us to learn about breast cancer, talk openly about early detection and screening, support those going through treatment, and remember those we have lost. There is also reason for hope: breast cancer death rates have declined substantially over the decades, with the American Cancer Society reporting a 44% overall decline in breast cancer death rates from 1989 through 2023, likely reflecting improvements in early detection, awareness, and treatment.​

At Branch 1100, we believe that being a union family means more than standing together in the workplace. It means standing together in our communities and supporting causes that affect the people we care about. Our Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Walk is an opportunity for letter carriers, family members, friends, coworkers, and members of our community to come together, show their support, raise funds, and remind those facing breast cancer that they are not alone.

Following the success of our first walk in 2025, Branch 1100 is proud to continue the tradition with our 2nd Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Walk on Sunday, October 11, 2026, at El Dorado Park in Long Beach. Whether you walk in honor of someone you love, in memory of someone we've lost, as a survivor, a supporter, or simply because you believe in making a difference. you have a place with us.

Put on your pink, bring your family and friends, and join your Branch 1100 family as we walk together for awareness, hope, strength, and a future where fewer families have to hear the words, “You have breast cancer.”
